11 years into her career, IU has achieved several accolades with many songs composed and released. She has also proven her acting skills through diverse characters in K-Dramas like Dream High, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, and Hotel Del Luna. She attracted a lot of fans during her career, including Jakaenas -IU’s fans in Jakarta- who has patiently waited for her to visit the city for 11 years. After making a promise to a fan on her Instagram live, IU hade good her word and chose Jakarta as the last stop of her <Love, Poem> Tour with not one, but two days of concert on Dec 28 and 29 at Tennis Indoor Senayan, Jakarta. Here’s a little preview of how the Day 1 went!
Love for Moment
The first moment with IU was magical for Jakaenas. Opening the concert with “Unlucky”, acoustic version of “Palette” and “Autumn Morning”, the audience couldn’t help but sing along with IU in perfect unison. She was surprised at how well Jakaenas could sing along to her songs despite the language barrier. Appreciating the effort, she also spoke a few sentences in Indonesian like “Saya sangat ingin bertemu” (I really want to meet you) and “Aku menepati janji untuk datang kesini” (I kept my promise to come here). She continued the beautiful moment with “Friday” and “Secret Garden” with her amazing vocals.
Love For Message
The second section of her concert was titled Love for Message. IU sent a message through more energetic and cool songs. She started it with an elegant performance of “The Visitor”, then continued with “Jam Jam”, “Twenty-three”, and “BBIBBI”. This time, the songs performed had fun choreos that made the audience danced along. IU said this is her favorite section of the concert because songs in this section are very cool. She also talked about how she started to get tired since she already performed in 14 different cities, but seeing Jakaenas’ enthusiasm that night, she regained her energy and hoped that the same energy would keep going through the night. Continuing with “Hold My Hand”, a cover of SoBangCha’s “Last Night Story”, and “Blueming”, she kept her voice stable while performing difficult choreography and burned up the audience’s energy until the end.
Love For Meaning
Next up was a section filled with ballads and a special performance of Hotel Del Luna OST Medley. She said that during this performance, she’s no longer IU and had turned into Jang Man Weol, her character in Hotel Del Luna. She even used two hairpins just like Jang Man Weol in the drama!
The ballad section didn’t end there, she continued the performance with “Lullaby” and asked the audience to sleep during the song because that’s what she wanted her listeners to do when listening to the song. While the audience pretended to fall asleep, she sang “Through The Night” and ended the section peacefully.
Love for Miracle
Back for the last section of the concert, IU sang “Dlwlrma” and “The Red Shoes” with full choreos that made the audience sing along with her again. “It’s really weird that Indonesian fans know the lyrics to my songs so well”, she said. She even talked about how she wanted to give the microphone to the audience to perform instead of her, but was scared their performance would be perfect. She also joked how the translator could translate her words so fast it felt like she was talking to her audience directly without any language barrier.
That amazing bond made her feel like she has known Jakarta fans for a long time even though it was her first time performing in the city. Ending the night with “Above the time” and “You and I”, she made a sweet promise by saying, “Aku akan datang lagi” (I’ll be back again). We can’t wait to see you again in Jakarta, IU!
Sweet Encore and En-Encore from Our Little Sister
It’s not an IU concert without an encore and an en-encore. She returned on stage in different dress and hairstyle, ready for an encore performance of “Good Day” and “Love, Poem”.
She joked around with the audience about how they really waited for five minutes before asking for “encore” after she told them to wait exactly that long. She also talked about how on time the concert was and how she believed that Jakartans are very punctual people. The audience immediately said no to that and made her laugh even more. The small talk made the concert felt very personal and in a way, like talking to a little sister, just like how she’s being named as in Korea.
The en-encore section started with IU taking in song requests from the audience. Three songs were successfully chosen, which were “Ending Scene”, “End of The Day” and “Heart”. Another karaoke section live with the singer was created at that moment where Jakaenas sang along perfectly in unison with IU. She left the stage after the last song with the audience still longing for more.
It was a beautiful meeting between Jakaenas and our long-lost sister, IU. We would like to thank iMe Indonesia for the invitation. We can’t wait to meet our little sister again soon!
