[INDONESIA] Super Junior Reunites with Indonesian ELFs At Super Show: Halftime Concert in Jakarta

Legendary 2nd gen group, Super Junior, finally made their way to Jakarta again on September 14, 2024, at Beach City International Stadium. The weather was hot that day, but Super Junior and their ELFs’ enthusiasm during 2024 SUPER JUNIOR (SUPER SHOW SPIN-OFF : Halftime) in Jakarta was a lot hotter!

At 3 PM local time, eight members of Super Junior entered the stage with their biker outfits and showed off their charisma to thousands of their beloved ELFs in attendance. The concert officially started as they performed their latest song, Show Time, along with Wonder Boy, Dancing Out, Don’t Wait, and Runaway. The fun performances succeed in lifting up everyone’s energy for the rest of the concert.

Super Junior’s Indonesian Names

A year without visiting the beloved country did not make Super Junior forget their Indonesian name. During the first ment, most of the members introduced themselves by the name they got a few years ago. Eunhyuk, the energetic main dancer, flirted with the audience by saying, “Sayang? Sayang? Nama saya Eko, Eunhyuk,” with a flying kiss in the end. (Honey? Honey? My name is Eko, Eunhyuk). Donghae also introduced himself as Dimas and thanked Indonesian ELFs for giving him the beautiful name.

Leeteuk, who wore a crop top, also let everyone know his local name, “Saya suka Indonesia, nama saya Kadir!” (I like Indonesia, my name is Kadir!). Although he seemed proud of the name, the leader expressed that he wanted to change his Indonesian name. Goreng, which means ‘fried’, became the first option he mentioned to change his name to. Leeteuk loved many fried Indonesian foods like mie goreng (fried noodles) and nasi goreng (fried rice), so he wanted Goreng to be his name.

Realizing Goreng was kind of funny as a name, Shindong suggested Leeteuk change his name to Cinta instead. Cinta means ‘love’ in Indonesian, so it would be more meaningful. The leader seemed hesitant with the idea, then suggested changing his name to Cinta Goreng instead. The crowd burst into laughter at the playful banter.

Unexpected Performances

Being in the K-Pop industry for almost two decades, Super Junior clearly knew how to entertain their fans. For the second segment, the pro idols split the team into three new sub-units. Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, and Donghae as L.E.D. unit were the first to appear on stage, performing Suit Up, which originally was sung by Leeteuk, Shindong, and Siwon. Shortly after that, S.K.Y. unit, which consisted of Shindong, Kyuhyun, and Yesung, flaunted their heavenly vocals through Let’s Not. Lastly, Siwon and Ryeowook took over the stage by performing Danger, which originally belonged to Donghae and Eunhyuk.

Aside from the unexpected unit performances, Super Junior also surprised the audience by singing some ballad songs from the vocal line’s solo discography. Super Junior’s rendition of It Has to Be You, At Gwanghwamun, The Little Prince, and The One I Love successfully brought a peaceful atmosphere to the concert venue. Indonesian ELFs did not forget to sing along to the melodious songs.

After serenading the audience, Super Junior showed off their youthful aura through a cover performance of some of the latest hits in K-Pop. Introducing themselves as Super Junior 23, the legendary idols completely changed the mood by dancing to Get A Guitar, the debut song of their junior label mate, RIIZE. The fun did not stop there because Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun, who teamed up as Super Junior 22, continued by performing NewJeansHype Boy.

Maze of Memories

The second half of the concert felt meaningful as Super Junior brought some of their legendary hits to the stage. SPY performance looked completely like Hollywood’s Secret Agent movie with gunshot sound effects and spotlights. Following that, Opera‘s addictive music and signature dance were able to take us back to the early 2010s. Super Junior also continued the nostalgia by performing Devil and Sorry Sorry.

As if performing those songs were not enough, the idols took the audience deeper into the memory lane by singing Lovely Day, From U, A Man In Love, and Believe. Being the sweet men they were, Super Junior did not forget to greet their beloved fans in each section while singing the love songs.

Two and a half hours have passed before we know it, and it is finally time for Super Junior to finish the show. The members expressed their happiness and gratitude for the fans for filling up the venue with good energy and enthusiasm. The concert has to end, but they will definitely come again for their 20th anniversary celebration next year!

We will definitely wait for your return, Super Junior!
