South Korean movie Parasite has made yet another mark in Korean movie history by winning four categories at the 92nd Academy Awards! The movie bagged Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature Film, Best Director and the biggest award that night, Best Picture. This makes Parasite the first foreign language film to win the award.
In Indonesia, Parasite holds the record for best selling Korean movie of all time in movie theaters during its release earlier in 2019. As a celebration of the film’s success, the Embassy of The Republic of Korea in Indonesia together with CJ Group held a special screening for the movie on Feb 14 at CGV Grand Indonesia, Jakarta.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia, Kim Chang Beom and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN, Lim Sung Nam also attended the event said they hoped the relationship between Indonesia and South Korea can continue to foster in the future through culture.
The event then continued with a 2-hour screening of Parasite. For those who have yet to watch it, the plot revolves around a poor family who tries to con a wealthy family by becoming their employees. It gives a glimpse into the how capitalism and class inequality works in South Korea.
Parasite is now back on screen in select theaters in Indonesia. Don’t miss your chance to watch this revolutionary movie in a theater near you!
We would like to thank KCC Indonesia for the invitation to the special screening of Parasite!
