[INDONESIA] Shelby Aditya & EXPECTO represent Indonesia, competing for 2019 Changwon K-Pop World Festival

K-Pop World Festival is an annual event started in 2011 for aspiring K-Pop stars from around the world. Organized by South Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and other government agencies for the world scale, 2019 Changwon K-Pop World Festival – Indonesia Final hosted by both Korean Cultural Center (KCC) and the Embassy of South Korea in Indonesia was held on July 28th 2019 at Tribeca Park, Central Park, Jakarta.

A Total of 22 Finalists Fought to Represent Indonesia

There are two categories that are contested in this competition, vocal and performance. Indonesia won “Grand Daesang” in the vocal category back in 2012 and 2017. This year, there were nine participants competing in the vocal (singing) category and 13 teams in performance (dance) category.

Shelby Aditya – 1st Winner in Vocal Category

Shelby Aditya, who covered BLACKPINK’s ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du‘ at the audition, won first place in the vocal category. Meanwhile in the performance category, it’s EXPECTO that snatched the first position. Both Shelby Aditya and EXPECTO will take part in the next selection phase, which is conducted online by KBS. Both of them will compete with other participants from all over the world to represent Indonesia.

The Shining Board of Jury

The presence of the jury at 2019 Changwon K-Pop World Festival – Indonesia Final was also quite interesting. Those who acted as an assessment board were Indonesian Korean Cultural Center Director Youngpoung Chun, talented singer and songwriter McKay, and professional dancer and choreographer Kyeong Yeol Park.

Choreographer Kyeong Yeol Park has an extraordinary background. He has worked with many K-Pop superstars such as Rain, TVXQ’s Yunho, and BTS. This guy was also involved behind the stage for Mnet Superstar K, Mnet Show Me the Money, and H.O.T Forever Concert.

Mckay’s Special Performance

McKay is quite well known among Korean music fans in Indonesia. McKay, who debuted in 2015 and has participated in the K-Pop Star 2 event, often covers Indonesian songs. He also appeared on the main stage that night, as the closing performance for 2019 Changwon K-Pop World Festival – Indonesia Final.

It really did feel like spending an evening with a lot of excitement – both for the contestants and jury. We hope both Shelby Aditya and EXPECTO are able to go further, and can participate in the 2019 Changwon K-Pop World Festival Grand Final on October 2019.

We would like to thank Korean Cultural Center for the media invitation.
