[INDONESIA] Exclusive Insights: A Glimpse Into Byeon Woo Seok’s Mind at ‘Summer Letter’ Press Conference

South Korean rising actor Byeon Woo Seok held an exclusive press conference ahead of his solo fanmeet in Jakarta. While his gentle demeanor is no secret to those around him, experiencing his kindness in person was genuinely heartwarming.

Byeon Woo Seok greeted the media with a warm smile, holding a bunch of yellow roses in his hands. He proceeded to distribute the flowers one by one to each media representative in attendance, ensuring to make eye contact with everyone, thus showcasing his sincere appreciation.

The 2024 Byeon Woo Seok Asia Fanmeeting Tour ‘Summer Letter’ in Jakarta marked his debut fanmeet in Indonesia. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with fans and conveyed his heartfelt thanks to them. Byeon Woo Seok also shared that since arriving in Indonesia, he has developed a strong liking for mie goreng. He was surprised to discover the varying levels of spiciness available and expressed his eagerness to try them.

If given the chance to return to Jakarta, Byeon Woo Seok conveyed his desire to explore more of the city. “I’m drawn to old buildings with rich historical traces,” he said. “I’ve heard the city square is particularly nice, so I would love to wander around freely while enjoying delicious foods and cafes nearby.”

In a previous interview, Byeon Woo Seok expressed his ambition to focus intensely on acting for the next ten years. When asked about his plans once he achieves this goal, Byeon Woo Seok mentioned that he isn’t one to plan far ahead and prefers to live in the moment. Currently, his mind is set on working hard for his upcoming fanmeets and other scheduled activities.

Through Lovely Runner, Byeon Woo Seok took on the challenge of portraying multiple roles at once: from a promising swimming athlete to a well-known idol. He even fulfilled his dream of singing the OST for his own drama. Reflecting on this experience, Byeon Woo Seok shared, “It has been a long-time dream of mine. Instead of finding the process difficult, I found it exhilarating, and everything still feels surreal to me. It’s also fascinating to hear my own voice in scenes where I’ve appeared.”

The press conference unexpectedly transformed into a mini fanmeet when the MC invited everyone to sing a verse of Sudden Shower, the beloved OST from Lovely Runner originally sung by Byeon Woo Seok himself. To his surprise, everyone sang along perfectly, causing him to burst into laughter. “I thought all of you were Sunjae,” Byeon Woo Seok joked, sparking more laughter throughout the room.

Among fans, it has been an inside joke that Byeon Woo Seok often gravitates toward characters with challenging backgrounds, sometimes resulting in the unfortunate deaths of the roles he played. However, the actor clarified that he did not always know the outcome of the story when he accepted these roles. In 20th Century Girl, he knew about Poong Woon Ho’s fate from the beginning. In contrast, with Strong Girl Nam Soon, Byeon Woo Seok only learned about Ryu Shio’s tragic ending after filming had begun.

Regarding his highly anticipated next project, Byeon Woo Seok revealed a shift in his approach to role selection. While he once harbored a desire to explore fantasy and diverse genres, he now emphasises the importance of establishing a personal connection with characters to portray them meaningfully. Despite this shift, he maintains a particular fondness for romantic comedy as a genre, noting that it allows him to develop deeper empathy for the characters.

Byeon Woo Seok dedicated eight long years nurturing his career to reach his current success. He now sees the fruits of his hard work with sold-out fanmeets across all stops on his Asia tour. However, Byeon Woo Seok never forgets his roots and deeply appreciates all the love and support he has received so far.

With his fanmeets selling out, many fans were unable to attend, a disappointment he shared with those who could not make it. Nonetheless, Byeon Woo Seok remains optimistic about future opportunities and expressed gratitude to fans for their unwavering support. Until then, he hopes their affection for him remains steadfast.

To conclude the press conference, Byeon Woo Seok spoke about how much his fans mean to him. “Through hosting these fanmeets, I realised that they are a tremendous source of strength to me,” he shared. “The fact that they appreciate me for who I am is incredibly precious to me.
