Dreamcatcher is one of the rising K-pop girl groups globally. The group comes from Happy Face Entertainment and has a large presence in Asia and Europe. The group consists of seven members: JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami and Gahyeon. They made their official debut on January 13, 2017.
Dreamcatcher’s concept has a darker theme and a non-mainstream music style. However, many non-fans may not know of Dreamcatcher’s versatility to pull off any music style and how all their members are all-rounders.
Also known as “content-generator” by Insomnias, Dreamcatcher has covered songs ranging from OSTs, idol group songs and also American pop songs.
In conjunction with their fourth anniversary, we prepared a list of Top 10 best song covers Dreamcatcher released since their debut.
This list is in no particular order.
1. REALLY REALLY by WINNER (Cover by SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon)
The combination of SuA, Siyeon, and Yoohyeon’s voices in their cover of WINNER’s REALLY REALLY certainly cannot be forgotten. Raking up to over 7 million views, this is their second most-viewed special clip. WINNER Seunghoon even shared that he watched this cover via his Instagram story. They also sang this song cover live in their radio appearance at MBC FM4U.
2. There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back by Shawn Mendes
You definitely should not miss their cover of Shawn Mendes’ There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back. Dreamcatcher truly elevates the song in their rock version with powerful vocals. Handong is the star of this cover with her charming lower voice register.
This video contains the girls’ self-cam footage from their YOU AND I tour concert. Seeing them perform the song on the stage along with Insomnias cheering makes it even more entertaining than the usual studio-recorded choreography.
3. Lucky Strike by Maroon 5
Lucky Strike, originally sung by Maroon 5, is another surprise cover Dreamcatcher made for Insomnias. They incorporated their own harmonies and backup vocals along with an energetic dance routine. With their fierce black leather costumes and synchronised dance motions, they easily embodied girl crush in this Lucky Strike cover. They also performed this song cover live on stage for KBS Open Concert.
4. Speechless by Naomi Scott (Cover by Siyeon)
Speechless from the Aladdin soundtrack became wildly popular thanks to the live action movie release in 2019. Siyeon also covered Speechless because she liked the OST and the movie so much she watched it three times!
Siyeon really nailed this cover with her perfect high note unique touches to the song. I believe Siyeon is one of the best idols to perfectly cover this difficult song. In fact, Disney Music even left a comment on the video acknowledging her cover!
5. Oh My! By SEVENTEEN (Cover by SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon)
After their Really Really cover, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, and SuA covered SEVENTEEN’s Oh My with their own rendition and style. They based their cover on SEVENTEEN’s cheerful swing rhythm and urban soul, but the melody was shifted to fit the trio’s higher tone, creating a more sophisticated and refreshing atmosphere. One of the highlights of this cover is definitely when their main vocalist Siyeon showed off her rapping skills!
6. COPYCAT by Billie Eilish (Cover by SuA)
This list would not be complete without SuA’s seductive and sexy cover of Billie Eilish‘s COPYCAT. As Dreamcatcher’s main dancer, SuA proves herself with her self-made sexy choreography and sultry vocal style. The dance greatly emphasises the feelings of darkness from the lyrics and contributes to an emotionally raw contemporary dance.
7. Havana by Camila Cabello
When Camila Cabello‘s Havana made waves in South Korea back in 2018, SuA and Dami decided to show their sexy side to Insomnias. They turned this cover into a rock version of Havana, making it spicy and sexy. The duo performed the cover with a set of sexy choreography choreographed by SuA herself.
Dreamcatcher also included this cover in their world tour setlist and performed the cover on KBS Open Concert in 2019.
8. We All Lie by Ha Jin (Cover by Siyeon)
K-drama fans may be familiar with this iconic OST We All Lie by Ha Jin from Sky Castle. Before the release of the cover, Dreamcatcher openly admitted to Insomnias that they were fans of the show. Their main vocalist Siyeon released this surprise song cover after the show ended. Siyeon who is known for her strong vocals, was finally able to showcase her OST-worthy vocals to Insomnias. Insomnias have been patiently rooting for her to sing an OST ever since she released the cover.
9. 2002 by Anne-Marie (Cover by Yoohyeon)
Yoohyeon amazed Insomnias with the release of her cover of Anne-Marie’s 2002. This cover highlights her lovely vocals with innocent date-like concept and is a huge contrast to Dreamcatcher’s usual dark concept. The song cover clip was edited by Yoohyeon herself. Dami also assisted Yoohyeon in filming and recording this cover.
10. Honesty by Pink Sweat$ (Cover by JiU)
JiU’s cover of Honesty by Pink Sweat$ is highly recommended. She makes Honesty sound so mellow and vulnerable with her sweet piercing voice.
JiU shows off her amazing vocal talent in this cover with her great breath control and falsetto. This is her first solo special clip covering a song and she truly aced it. Even Pink Sweat$ tweeted saying he loved JiU’s cover!
Dreamcatcher has proven their versatility in nailing a wide range of concepts from cute to mature. What do you think of these covers? Let us know which one is your favourite cover by Dreamcatcher in the comment section below!
