With a career spanning a decade and a half, Ok Taecyeon has established himself as a multitalented artist who has left an enduring mark on the Korean entertainment industry.

As he prepares to meet his fans at his Ok Taecyeon in Manila: ‘SpecialTY’ fan meeting on September 23, 2023 at the New Frontier Theater, it’s the perfect time to explore the three defining “specialties” of this remarkable artist.

Legendary 2nd-Gen Idol

Although he initially aspired to become a model, Taecyeon eventually made his debut in 2008 as the main rapper of the K-Pop boy group 2PM.

Formed under JYP Entertainment, the group emerged as one of the leading second-generation K-Pop boy bands.

They achieved numerous milestones in their career, including multiple commercially successful albums, hit singles like Again & Again and Heartbeat and sold-out concerts worldwide.

The group made their most recent Korean comeback on June 28, 2021, with their seventh studio album, Must, featuring the title track Make It. On September 29 of the same year, they released their Japanese EP, With Me Again.

2PM is headed to Japan for their 15th anniversary concert, IT’S 2PM, taking place on October 7 & 8, 2023, at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

Branching Out Into Acting

In addition to being recognized as one of the legends of second-generation K-Pop, Taecyeon has also made a name for himself as a versatile actor.

Since his acting debut in 2010, Taecyeon has starred in various popular dramas, including Dream High (2011), Bring It On, Ghost (2016), and Save Me (2017).

However, his most remarkable role to date was in Vincenzo (2021), where he portrayed the main antagonist, Jang Han Seok.

In a 2021 interview with 1st Look Magazine, Taecyeon revealed that he “spent a lot of time worrying” about portraying his character in Vincenzo and described the role as a challenge because it was “a type of acting he had never attempted before”. He also often wondered how viewers would react to this new side of him.

Despite Taecyeon’s worries, his performance in the drama drew praise from critics and fans alike. The series also became one of the highest-rated cable dramas in South Korea and one of the most-watched K-Dramas on the streaming platform Netflix.

Taecyeon recently starred in the 2023 drama Heartbeat alongside Won Ji An, Park Kang Hyun, and Yoon So Hee.

A Multilingual King

In a 2017 episode of the tvN talk show TAXI, Taecyeon revealed that he is proficient in three languages!

In addition to his native Korean, Taecyeon is fluent in English (as he grew up in Massachusetts, USA) and Japanese.

During the same show, he also proudly mentioned that he achieved a perfect score on the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) and had previously studied Spanish and Chinese.

Taecyeon’s multilingualism has allowed him to bridge cultural gaps and connect with fans worldwide.
