When we think of So Ji Sub, we remember the topnotch actor who’s known for portraying melodramatic roles. While we’ve listed down his five must-watch shows, we can’t help but to explore and showcase the other side of this multifaceted body of talent, which is his musicality.

Self-confessed hip hop lover So Ji Sub has ventured out to release albums that express more of his artistry. Curious to know how this well-rounded star sounds? Check out the highlights of his interesting discography!

고독한 인생 (Lonely Life)

Although he started his career in 1996, it was only in 2008 when we heard So Ji Sub rap in the official soundtrack (OST) of his own film ‘Rough Cut’ under the name ‘G‘. This debut song also featured the actor Yoo Seung Hoand has a dark undertone to it as it talks about violence and life’s meaninglessness — a perfect complement to the action-packed, award-winning film.

Pick Up Line

After two singles under the monicker ‘G‘, So Ji Sub maintained his original screen name and released another digital single called ‘Pick Up Line‘. His rapping style is softer than most hip hop artists would typically resonate with, but it’s the core element of what makes it an enjoyable sound. From thick eyeliners and loud tiger prints, we can definitely feel the swag oozing from this amazing lad.

18 Years (Feat. 샛별)

He celebrated his 18-year career with a song featuring the mellow, sullen voice of Set Byul. It was written in the context of his life story as an actor and the struggles that came along with it. From the thoughts of living in a masked persona to the confusion between reality and fantasy to the growing loneliness, and finally, the acceptance that everything is just momentary, we felt a strong connection to the raw emotions of the human behind our screens that is So Ji Sub.

So Ganzi

In July 2015, So Ji Sub released ‘So Ganzi‘ which came in two versions — BLACK embodies heavy hip hop beats, while WHITE has its playful, funky groove. It’s actually a soulful collaboration song with Soul Dive and New Day, but the mix was done just right and we can’t help but flash our sparkling jackets and dance to it!

Are You With Me? (Feat. CHANGMO)

While his past tracks were mostly patterned to a gloomy yet full of angst theme, So Ji Sub took a shot in transforming his style to a gentle and sweet arrangement of a love song in ‘Are You With Me?‘ It’s easy to the ear, light, and slow so you’re sure to get caught singing along with the lines with delight in your heart.

We see an actor unafraid to embark on different ways in the pursuit of full artistic expression, and we can’t help but wish to witness this talented artist perform live.
