[SINGAPORE] ENHYPEN’s Plot Thickens at Fashionable ‘Walk The Line’ Tour

When ENHYPEN added a third date to their ‘Walk The Line‘ run at the Singapore Indoor Stadium after the originally scheduled two shows sold out within minutes, we instantly understood how much of a sensation this Billboard-topping Gen Z group is.

Not only have they completely sold out 12 shows across the U.S. and Europe, the Belift Lab septet is also the fastest K-pop boy group to perform at renowned music festival Coachella earlier this year. To top off these accolades, the seven boys were also decked in black custom Prada suits for the opening segment of this third world tour, a nod to their global ambassadorship of the luxury brand.

But commercial successes aside, the boys and their team are really committed to making ENHYPEN the unrivalled storytellers of the K-pop world, making it a gold mine for lore geeks.

The show opened with Brought The Heat Back amidst fiery pyrotechnics, with spooky screen visuals and motifs of bats alluding to ENHYPEN’s secret identities as vampires in their universe. Future Perfect (Pass the MIC) painted an apocalyptic picture, the boys standing on platforms among crumbled buildings and a podium full of mics.

On a more classical note, the sound of cellos preluded the pensive Given-Taken as the members appeared in matching navy jackets. Red and pink flowers on stage contrasted the pristine white grand piano that Heeseung sat at to play the intro of XO (Only If You Say Yes).

ENHYPEN’s worldbuilding continues in a couple of sub-unit stages, where it becomes clearer that besides being performers, they are also distinct characters in their own universe. Sunghoon, Jay, and Jake performing Lucifer while donning black priest robes with clerical collars felt somewhat sacrilegious. Heeseung, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-ki subsequently rose from the ground beneath wearing light grey jackets with glittery spider web-shaped embellishments and performed Teeth in a deep but magnetic purr.

Sparks flew when Jay surprised us with an electric guitar solo that served as an intro to Blessed-Cursed. During Fatal Trouble, the screen behind the boys mirrored the back view of their fluid moves, which was a nice touch to a breathtaking track.

The boys let their hair down and came out in jerseys for the more laidback tracks such as Loose, Tamed-Dashed, and Sweet Venom. It’s not a K-pop concert without them talking about food, right? While catching their breaths in the midst of a long set, Jay shared that he had chicken rice the previous night, and Heeseung talked about trying “rose milk”, which Jungwon later clarified with fans to be local beverage bandung. “Singapore has good food,” affirmed Jay.

The last fit of the evening were embroidered silver vests over white button-ups, sported for Moonstruck, No Doubt, and Bad Desire (With or Without You). “It’s our first time performing Moonstruck in a while, so we gave it our all,” Ni-ki shared.

Maybe it’s because it was a Saturday, but the members pointed out that fans were exceptionally energetic that day. “Seeing ENGENEs dance in the small space at the back of the standing pens makes me so happy,” Ni-ki gushed, adding that he could also see seated fans standing up to vibe with him as he approached their side of the stadium.

Sunoo revealed that while the first show of their Singapore run felt more like a warm-up for them, it being the first time resuming the tour in a month, he was able to immerse himself more on Day 2. Jungwon also talked about worrying about their stamina, since it had been a year since ENHYPEN did three consecutive shows in one place.

“I feel like we’ve aged well together since our last time in Singapore,” Sunghoon said. “Every single one of you here means so much to us,” Jake said in English.

The topic of Heeseung’s birthday being around the corner came up, so fans spontaneously roared a happy birthday song for him. “Regardless of the reason, thank you for loving us,” Heeseung said, hinting that their next album is already in the works. “I will always remember here, Singapore, so please do not leave us, okay?”
