Five members of 1MILLION Dance Studio, Lia Kim, Kooyoung Back, K Chan, Yechan, and Hyewon, were present at THE BEAT OF K-DANCE with 1MILLION last weekend at the Main Atrium of KOREA 360 in Jakarta. The event was held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of South Korea along with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) as one of the cultural exchange missions between South Korea and Indonesia.
The event officially started when Lia Kim, the founder of 1MILLION Dance Studio, signed an MoU with KOCCA Indonesia Regional Director Lee Gi Haun. They were then joined by the other four dancers for a press conference session. Kooyoung Back shared that he was honoured to take part in this event and could not wait to have fun with Jakarta’s audience. He could already feel the fans’ incredible energy, thus he was very happy.

Regarding the 1MILLION dance signature, Lia Kim revealed she had always wanted all of her dance members to be able to express themselves in their own colours, genres, and styles, so she never gave any rules or limitations to the dance. She wanted everyone to thrive freely in their own ways, but she still kept her eyes on them. Dance is a form of art that relies on creativity, and the dancers could take inspiration from everywhere possible.
When each member was asked to give pieces of advice to aspiring dancers, Yechan advised the dancers to not be afraid to try new things. By trying out new things, dancers could find their own special characteristics and colors. Hyewon also agreed that it is important to find unique traits and ambitions as a dancer. On the other hand, K Chan said that dancers should not forget the reason they dance in the first place. He also assured that every process should be carried out at their own speed, as there is no such thing as too fast or too slow.

After the insightful press conference, the five members of 1MILLION moved to Collect Town of KOREA 360 for the handprinting placement ceremony. The moment felt more special because the handprints of Lia Kim and Kooyoung Back were personally handed over by the representative of the South Korean ambassador to Indonesia, CDA Park Soo-deok. The two dance gurus also had the chance to place their handprints alongside the handprints of other stars.
Hoping on to the main stage next, the 1MILLION members finally met the audience who were delighted to see them. As world-class dance icons, Lia Kim and Kooyoung Back, along with Indonesian dancer, Brandon De Angelo, officiated as judges for the dance battle competition. 14 talented dancers participated in the competition with their skills. “I have seen all of the performances, and you guys were marvellous. It is hard to choose one to be a winner, but I will try,” Kooyoung Back admitted.
Following the selection of the dance battle winner, the five members of 1MILLION greeted the fans personally through a fansign session. Smiles and laughter were shared as the fans were able to relay their messages while the dance sensations gave their signatures and personalised notes to fans. The session then concluded with a random play dance time, with over ten fans participating on stage.

At the end of the event, the members of 1MILLION finally showcased their dance skills through various performances. Each member had their own spotlight during their individual dance show, exhibiting their personal charms and skills as true professionals. Hyewon, for instance, successfully delivered a mixture of fierce and sexy performance while dancing to KK by PENOMECO. Kooyoung Back was able to show another version of Mantra by Jennie with his own masculine charisma while still giving hints of playful touches to the dance.
The members also got the chance to display their chemistry with each other. Yechan and K Chan were simply the coolest duo during their rendition of aespa‘s Whiplash. Mixing the original choreography and their own modification, they definitely captured the audience’s attention. The five members of 1MILLION did not forget to also dance together as a group. From Rosé and Bruno Mars‘ sensational track, APT, to 1MILLION’s recently released single, Can We Luv, the dancers presented versatile performances for everyone to enjoy.
We had a great time taking part in THE BEAT OF K-DANCE with 1MILLION.
