Solar is back on our sunny shores with her solo concert Colours! This marks the seventh stop of her first solo Asia tour, which kicked off in Seoul in June.
Paying homage to the concert’s title, each stop is assigned a different colour code. Singapore’s colour? Blue. On 27th July 2024, passionate YONGSOONs decked themselves in all shades of blue at the Capitol Theatre. Even before the show started, many were singing along to the music videos on screen and waving their Moobongs, MAMAMOO’s official lightstick.
It’s Showtime
The show opened with a stunning backdrop of red, blue and pink strobe lights. Solar showcased her fierce moves, starting with upbeat tunes like Colors, RAW and Spit it out.
The next segment included songs like Mellow, Honey Honey, HONEY BEE and HONEY and is affectionately termed by Solar as her honey series. “I didn’t know I had so many songs related to Honey! Shall we dive into the honey jar together?” she exclaimed. This segment showcased her dance versatility, with HONEY incorporating ballet moves and HONEY BEE bringing a tight dance routine.
The sea of lightsticks turned blue as Solar transitioned into a medley of ballads. The audience sang along in perfect harmony to emotional tracks like Where the Wind Rises, Only Longing Grows and Love Has Gone. Gliding through high notes effortlessly, Solar’s sweet vocals filled up the whole stage.
A Dazzling Musical Repertoire
Outside of being a successful idol and YouTuber, Solar embarked on a new journey as a musical actress in 2022. As such, the concert incorporated vibrant elements of a musical repertoire. Solar delighted fans with costume changes, stage lines and musical tunes such as C’est La Vie, The Girl I Used To Be and One Last Time. Looking stunning in a red dress, she continued with a fan favourite, Big Booty off her Face EP. Solar aptly described the crowd’s overwhelming energy in Singlish, “Swee lah!”
Her Love Letter to Fans
Solar reflected on her journey since debuting in 2014 and shared the inspiration for her song Easy Peasy. “I always hear words of encouragement when I meet fans, and I wrote this song with the heart of giving the same comfort to everyone ” she shared. During her performance of HELLO and Empty, lyrics flashed on screen for fans to sing along. Solar even walked down both sides of the stage to interact closely with the fans in the standing pen, taking her love for the fans a step further.
At the end of the song But I, Singapore YONGSOONs surprised Solar with a video message celebrating her hard work for the past few years. Cheers were heard as videos of her fellow Mamamoo members showed up on screen.
Ready to get the party started, Solar returned for her encore in a Colours crop top and a tutu skirt. She began with the energetic dance track PARADISE, turning the theatre into a dance floor.
For her encore setlist, Solar held a lyric book gifted by a Singapore fan and took fan requests. She covered a series of songs, including Take Me To Church by Hozier and Unholy by Sam Smith. Fans were also transported to Disneyland with her cover of Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid Soundtrack.
One of the highlights from the show was Solar’s cover of Home by Kit Chan, just in time for the upcoming National Day! She shared that she really enjoyed learning this song and was excited to perform it for Singapore Yongsoons.
Solar promised to return soon and delighted fans with her knowledge of Singlish words such as “Shiok!” Joined by her talented crew of backup dancers, she performed Colors one more time.
True to its name, the concert was a colourful journey. Solar explored a variety of music genres, giving fans a visual and musical feast that they will surely remember for years to come.
