After years of waiting, Epik High finally placed Malaysia on the map for their EPIK HIGH IS HERE ASIA PACIFIC TOUR 2022! Tablo, Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz made their way to Kuala Lumpur and performed live on December 2 in ZEPP KL last weekend. Dive deeper to recall Epik High’s energy!
Their First Ever Concert in Kuala Lumpur
Without a doubt, Epik High’s zestful performances throughout the concert have most definitely serve as a core memory for the devoted Malaysian High Skools. Fans had spent years anticipating their arrival in this tropical country. Before the trio stepped up to perform, the energetic crowd was already as fervent as ever – even the staff members who fixed the final touches on stage received hysterical applause from fans. This continued until the venue slowly darkened, signifying the beginning of the concert.
The cheers intensified as the word Here echoed from the speakers, the title of the very first track of their latest album, Epik High Is Here 下 (Part 2). The long-awaited Epik High was ready to steal the show with opening tracks Prequel and Fly.
Intense Energy from The Hip Hop Trio
After the humorous introduction of the members that were filled with witty backtracks and comments, they swerved back to their artiste mode and served the audience with their top tier stage presence and incredible tight rap. The hip hop legends flawlessly hyped the crowd with Face ID, a track that depicts the cruciality of facing or confronting each other, regardless whether it is for good or for bad. Applying this into real life, the trio went nearer to the crowd and tried to face and interact with as many people as possible. The artists grabbed their starstruck fans’ devices to record close-ups of their own faces, giving them top-notch fan service. This did not take long as they advanced to the next song in the setlist. Greeted by the iconic guitar intro, it is hard for High Skools to not recognise Rosario the moment the instrumentals began to play.
What makes the concert especially memorable is the infinite number of songs in the setlist, which included tracks like Burj Khalifa, Super Rare, Eternal Sunshine, and BLEED. The attendees were mesmerised and have high respect towards the members. Despite the back-to-back intense songs, there was not a single hint of tiredness seen from Epik High. They constantly ran across one end of the stage to another, and included a choreography during the chorus of Fan. DJ Tukutz even showed off his dancing skills while Tablo and Mithra Jin hyped him up. The trio went on to perform more songs from the discography such as the classic Love Love Love and One, earning endless appreciation from those who attended the concert.
As the show went on, Epik High took out a plain shirt and signed on it, and that was when the screaming crowd cheered enthusiastically. Knowing where this was leading to, roars of excitement can be heard from the audience as they reached out their hands, seeking for every possibility to grab the shirt. Before Mithra Jin launched the shirt towards the fans, Tablo stepped up and reminded everyone to not hurt anyone next to them. The clothing piece eventually skyrocketed towards the other side, giving a lucky fan a new item in their collection!
Without wasting any more time, the trio continued to hustle their way through the concert and gave their best in performing the two remaining tracks, High Technology and Don’t Hate Me. The crowd chanted along to the chorus and received splashes of water by the members – it wouldn’t be an Epik High concert if you weren’t splashed by it! Just like the water that dispersed freely into the crowd, the trio were able to wash away the worries of the crowd, giving Malaysian High Skools a proper start to their weekend.
Satisfying Encore Demands for More
Realising the show had arrived at its closure, High Skools sticked to their places and simultaneously demanded for an encore. Hearing this, DJ Tukutz teased the crowd by going back and forth betweeen his DJ set and the backstage a couple of times before eventually hitting us with NO THANXXX and Born Hater. Epik High successfully wrapped up the concert with a bow of gratitude and charismatically walked off the stage.
The excitement does not end there. Those who attended the concert are currently expressing their positive feedback and desires on social media, stating that they wish to have a longer show with them if they have plans to return to Malaysia.
Needless to say, Epik High’s concert in Kuala Lumpur is hands down one of the most exceptional concerts we have this year. Their concert experience will definitely linger among the fans as they wait for another chance to see Epik High in town again.
