BLACKPINK is back in your area after more than a year with the highly anticipated pre-release track “How You Like That”. The track shot to #1 on multiple local and international charts including the US iTunes Singles Chart, making them first girl group to hit #1 in two consecutive decades.
“Look at me, look at you” — with lyrics like that it would be a sin if we skip a feature on breaking down their – yet again – amazing style for the music video.
Each member of the group has represented or is heavily associated with major fashion houses — Jennie (Gucci & CHANEL), Jisoo (Dior), Rosé (Saint Laurent) and Lisa with CELINE. It’s a no-brainer that some of the outfits featured in the music video belong to the brands mentioned.
In the promotional photos, the quartet are dressed in street fashion with the eye-catching footwear with Jisoo’s rainbow boots from Demonia Cult and Jennie’s silver glitter platforms from Chiara Ferragni.
ALL TIME CLASSIC BLACK DRESS
The music video opens with a dash of theatrics with Lisa’s entrance in a slinky CELINE’s maxi black dress from their Fall/Winter 2020 ready-to-wear collection with an architectural sculpture of a black wing.
The next scene shows all four members dressed in a similar-themed maxi black dress that matches their personalities. Jennie is decked in CHANEL’s Spring 2020 ready-to-wear collection while both Jisoo and Rosé wear Bridal Kong’s gowns.
Fun fact: Bridal Kong is also the fashion house responsible for Park Narae’s outstanding neon green gown that she wore when she bagged the biggest award (daesang) of the night at the MBC Entertainment Awards.
PIÈCE DE RÉSISTANCE
Talking about outstanding gowns, Jisoo mesmerised us with her beauty in the bright red pointelle lace knitted dress from Alexander McQueen. Styled with a striking headgear in the same colour, it left a lasting impression especially with Jisoo poised and calm with the fiery crumbling background.
Lisa sported a chic shorter updo for the music video, grabbing the audience’s attention with her charismatic rapping in an OFF-WHITE’s Fall/Winter 2020 Collection. Who does street fashion as well as Lisa, anyway?
ALL-WHITE ENSEMBLE
The music video then moves to the quartet dancing in all-white ensembles with splendid blue in the background that makes the outfits really pop.
If there’s anything that the STYLE BREAKDOWN of the previous era taught us, it would be that the girls will always be dressed collectively according to a theme, but never uniform. Each of their outfits brings out the best of their personalities.
Lisa and Rosé wore Badblood’s nylon padded vest and cropped jacket respectively. Jisoo on the other hand, was dressed in Dior’s hooded anorak while Jennie was in CHANEL’s Pre-Fall 2020 Collection.
TRADITIONAL MEETS CONTEMPORARY
At the end of the music video, BLACKPINK and their army of backup dancers dressed in white danced their hearts out in modern hanbok tops.
Rosé and Jennie are both styled in Danha’s hanbok coat and jacket respectively. The up-and-coming Seoul’s fashion brand uses environmentally friendly materials including recycled fabric!
The pre-release track served us Jisoo’s stunning ethereal beauty, Jennie’s iconic Cruella de Vil inspired bleached blond and black hair combo, Rosé’s lovely hue of lilac dyed on her hair and Lisa’s bewitching charm in carrying street fashion and avant-garde dress alike.
We can’t wait for the official comeback that will definitely serve us more amazing looks and sounds!
In the meantime, let us know which outfit you’re dying to get your hands on!
