It was the weekend after school like no other for a lucky group of fans, as they had the opportunity to meet with ‘Park Daewon’ at his first solo fanmeet last Saturday, 22 June, at KC Arts Centre – Home of SRT! The singer has been to Singapore previously in 2018 as part of the survival show The Unit group UNB, but this was his first time visiting our shores as a solo artist. Fans spent an intimate afternoon with Daewon enjoying the one-on-one interactions, games, and getting to know each other better!
Daewon made his entrance serenading fans with Jung Sewoon’s ‘My Ocean’, which he later on revealed that he chose this particular song because of the beautiful lyrics that he wanted to convey to the fans present. If fans weren’t yet swooning over just his voice – and you can bet we all were – they were definitely touched by this statement!
This was followed by a Q&A session, with Daewon revealing that he noticed many pretty things in Singapore, and that he had a list of things he wanted to do here! Most notably, he would like to visit Clarke Quay, eat chili crab, and go to Universal Studios. Fans also had many questions for Daewon, which were all written on post-it notes and placed on a board that the singer had to pick from without looking. Hilarity ensued as some of the questions were written in Korean and Daewon began reading out the questions from the post-it notes he picked and answering them directly without needing the help of the translator. This caused the emcee to question whether they still needed him to translate, causing both Daewon and fans to burst into laughter!
Daewon and his fans then played a fun game of charades, with him acting out the keywords. Much to their delight, fans that made the correct guesses all walked away with signed posters!
Moving on, Daewon sang a heartfelt cover of Lee Seung-gi’s ‘Words That Say I Love You’, which had fans going ‘Awww’ over his angelic voice. Daewon explained that he really respected senior Lee Seung-gi, and practiced really hard for this song. He felt that he didn’t do his best and could have performed better, but fans no doubt still loved it anyway because of the genuine effort he put in and his angelic voice!
Proceeding on with another round of games, Daewon and five fans picked from a lucky draw joined him on stage to play a telepathy game, where both him and the fans have to act out similar actions to a particular keyword. Although score was kept, all five lucky fans received an autographed poster and polaroid!
Before the last performance, Daewon announced that he had a self-filmed behind the scenes as a gift for fans. Due to an unexpected technical glitch, however (also fortunately!), fans were rewarded with a short dance battle between Daewon and the emcee while waiting for it to be resolved! Nevertheless, fans were thrilled when the VCR finally started playing. Daewon got embarrassed at one point during the video and adorably ran out and started swiping at the screen as if he could move it away! This actually happened a handful of times before during the fanmeet, when photos of him were shown on the screen in the background. Why is he so adorable?!
Finally, Daewon came out to perform the last song, ‘What Was That’ by Acourve. Although it was disappointing that the fanmeet was already coming to an end, fans got excited again upon being reminded that there was still a one-on-one photo session with Daewon!
We had a fun time at the fanmeet and we were definitely charmed by Daewon’s genuine interactions with his fans, as well as his adorable personality! We hope to see Daewon back here again soon!!
