Happiness! The girls of Red Velvet – Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy and Yeri, definitely lived up to spreading happiness to their fans, as they treated Singapore ReVeluvs to an exciting night at their 2nd concert, REDMARE in Singapore. Attracting a crowd of 4,000 concert goers, Red Velvet proves their immense popularity with songs that are appealing and friendly for the general public, as there were both male and female fans of all ages attending the concert holding their lightstick, the Kim Man Bong!
The concert had elements of fun and surprise, mainly surrounding the theme of the girls in an amusement park and having fun. The concert started with a crowd-favourite ‘Russian Roulette’, followed by their latest release during summer, ‘Power Up’. It was definitely a wise choice to start the concert with these 2 songs as ReVeluvs were already excited and singing along to the songs. After ‘#Cookie Jar’, the girls formally introduced themselves, and even taught ReVeluvs the point choreography for ‘Power Up’. Promising ReVeluvs to a night of excitement, they proceeded with some of their b-tracks, such as ‘My Second Date’ and ‘Mosquito’.
After a VCR which showed the girls being captured by hunters, the girls came out in a different outfit and performed a series of songs that had a tropical-feeling. Not forgetting their debut song ‘Happiness’, the girls continued to showcase amazing synchrony and brilliant stage presence even as an hour has progressed into the show.
Red Velvet also briefly explained to fans how they have took part in the production of their 2nd concert. Yeri explained that she was the one who came up with the name of the robot, ‘REVE’, and said it was derived from the name of their fans, ‘ReVeluv’. Seulgi also mentioned that she was the artist behind the sketch of the robot, and took pride in the fact that all the members took part in the production. They promised that as they do more concerts in the future, they will continue to take part in the production of the concerts as well. As it was a segment of talk and laughter, the girls felt that this concert was more like a fanmeet as they got a chance to interact with their fans.
Unfortunately, Joy appeared with a shoulder sling during the talking segment and burst into tears as she explained that she had injured her right shoulder while performing. Although she received emergency treatment, she was still advised to head to the nearest hospital to prevent further injuries. ReVeluvs were heartbroken as Joy was disheartened that she could not continue performing with the rest of her members, but the audience kept on cheering on for her that it was alright, and applauded her professionalism to continue her performance despite the pain. (Update: Joy has received treatment and has headed back to Korea in good condition!)
A 4-man strong Red Velvet was still perfect and showed utmost dedication to performing as they moved onto their ballad songs. During ‘Moonlight Melody’, ReVeluvs even raised up a heart-shaped figure as part of their fan project, which caught the eyes of the members who explained that they were pleased to see everyone holding it up. It must have been a really beautiful sight to see from the stage and we are sure the girls were touched by the efforts of Singapore ReVeluvs.
The final segment of the show was dedicated to the title tracks of Red Velvet. Beginning with a remix of ‘Ice Cream Cake’, the girls moved on to perform ‘Bad Boy’, ‘Peek-A-Boo’, ‘Dumb Dumb’, ‘Red Flavour’ and ‘Rookie’. Seulgi also mentioned that when they were first taught to do the robot dance in ‘Dumb Dumb’, they could not stop laughing, and asked ReVeluvs to try it out themselves.
As the girls delivered their ending speeches, Wendy said that while they could not come to Singapore often, they had a blast today and that ReVeluvs are like a gift to her. She promises that the next time, it will definitely be the 5 of them again on stage together. Seulgi thanked everyone for the support and it was only because of ReVeluvs that they were able to complete their performances. After this experience, Seulgi vowed to be an even stronger Red Velvet and will return to Singapore with a better image the next time. Yeri expressed her excitement that it was their first concert in Singapore so she was really looking forward to it and despite a minor accident, it was all because of ReVeluvs that they were able to perform happily and with energy. Lastly, Irene said that she was really touched when everyone sang ‘Red Flavor’ together, and she took off her in-ear to have a good listen. Irene said that she is always thankful for the love and support from ReVeluvs, the only ones who know them so well, and as much as they had a good time in Singapore, they will definitely make their return.
The girls then took their final bow after ‘Day 1’ with a contented smile, likewise from ReVeluvs. We wish Joy a speedy recovery, and Red Velvet all the best for their remaining concert stops! We would also like to extend our thanks to One Production for the media invite to the concert! 🙂
