[INDONESIA] Korea Indonesia Film Festival 2018 Opening Ceremony

After the press conference, the opening ceremony of Korea Indonesia Film Festival (KIFF) 2018 was held on Thursday, 18 October 2018 at CGV Cinemas Grand Indonesia, Jakarta. KIFF is an annual event alongside Korean Festival held in Indonesia. The purpose of KIFF is to bring more exposure towards South Korea & Indonesia’s culture through the incorporation of movies.

Special guest stars in attendance were Rano Karno (director and main cast of ‘Si Doel the Movie’)  and Iqbaal Ramadhan (main cast of ‘Dilan 1990’). During his speech, Rano Karno said he just came back from Korea a couple of days prior to the opening ceremony and was surprised when he was invited to the event. He also shared of the possibility of filming the sequel of ‘Si Doel the Movie’ in Korea!

Iqbaal Ramadhan said he felt honored because ‘Dilan 1990’ was included as part of KIFF 2018. He thanked everyone for the support shown for the movie and expressed his desire for a sequel. Besides ‘Si Doel the Movie’ and ‘Dilan 1990’ as representatives for Indonesian movies, ‘Pengabdi Setan’ and ‘Susah Sinyal’ were also part of the list for this year’s event.

The movie festival was officially launched when the guest stars and  Mr. Kim Chang Beom (South Korea Ambassador for Republic of Indonesia), Son Young (Director of CJ Indonesia), Jeon Young Pyong (Director of Korean Cultural Center) and Tomy Kim (Director of CGV Cinemas) continued with the ribbon cutting ceremony!

The opening film for KIFF 2018 was ‘The Negotiation’ which is a crime-thriller movie, released on September 2018 directed by Lee Jong Seok. This movie revolves around Ha Chae Yoon, a crisis negotiator for the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency who tried to save hostages kidnapped by Min Tae Goo, an international weapon trader. With a tight timeline, the negotiator not only has to save hostages but to also solve the mystery of the weapon trader.

KIFF 2018 officially ended on Sunday, 21 October 2018 with ‘Forgotten’ as the closing film. We would like to thank Korean Cultural Center and CGV Cinemas for inviting us to the opening ceremony of KIFF 2018 and we are definitely looking forward to next year’s event! 🙂
