[UPCOMING EVENT] Auditions now open for SGKpopcon 2016

KPOP WORLD FESTIVAL POSTERSGKpopcon will be returning in June, and the 2016 edition is set to be bigger and better than ever! In addition to cultivating local interest in Korean entertainment and culture, SGKpopcon also provides a platform for Hallyu fans to showcase their talents and perform in front of a live audience. This year’s celebrations will once again include the dance contest regional preliminary for the 2016 K-Pop World Festival in Changwon, one of the biggest international competitions in Korea. Selected finalists will get the chance to share the stage with some of the biggest names in Korean Pop Music in Changwon. Last year’s guest performers included BTS, SHINee, Red Velvet and more!

How to apply?

Online auditions are now open to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents to compete in either the vocal or performance categories. Audition applications can be made via the official website from 10 May till 13 June. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to battle it out on stage at the Singapore Preliminary of K-Pop World Festival 2016, where the top two acts (from Vocals and Performance category combined) will move on to participate in the next round and represent Singapore in the competition against their international counterparts.

  • Admission is free for all. However, due to limited venue capacity, attendees will be allowed entry on a first come, first served basis.

Performance group requirements

All performance groups will be required to lip-sync to their cover songs during their performances. The winners of the performance category will be required to submit a separate audio recording of their vocals for the international judging process. While there is no restriction on the number of members for performance groups, it is strongly recommended that they have the same number of members as the original K-Pop band that they are covering.

Vocal audition requirements

Under the vocal category, there is no limit to the number of vocalists per act however KBS reserves the right to remove any vocalist from the subsequent rounds if they are deemed to not be of significant contribution to the team. Vocal acts are now given the option to add up to 2 additional backup dancers to spice up their act.
