Earlier this month on 7 May, #1 Korean entertainment channel in Singapore ONE TV Asia organised the inaugural ‘ONE Family Day Out’ at Waterway Point. The special event was headlined by some of the cast from popular reality program ‘Oh! My Baby’ – actor-model Ricky Kim and his lovely children, Tae Rin and Tae Oh! Before the arrival of the guests, mall-goers and fans were treated to an expo that included K-entertainment themed activity booths and standees of their favourite Korean celebrities.
The hour-long meet-and-greet session drew over 3,500 excited fans and curious shoppers to Waterway Point, with ardent fans of the ‘TaeTae Family’ arriving as early as 7.30am to secure a good vantage point. Korean-American actor and father Ricky appeared onstage first for a short Q&A segment. Charming the fans with his dazzling smile, Ricky’s delight at seeing the local fans was evident as he immediately started to snap photos of the crowd.
Some interesting tidbits from the interview: Ricky mentioned that he had visited Singapore a few times before, but this is the first time he is here with his family. He described eldest daughter Tae Rin as a princess because of her liking for the colour pink and all things girly. Meanwhile, younger son Tae Oh is a typical troublemaker with a penchant for mischief. In response to questions about himself, Ricky stated a preference for acting since he began his career as an actor. He also hoped to appear in a Hollywood production someday if the opportunity arises. With his exotic looks and charisma, we reckon that Ricky would be a perfect fit for a high profile movie role!
Soon enough, it was time for the children to make their entrance. Holding shy daughter Tae Rin’s hand in one hand and boisterous son Tae Oh’s with the other, Ricky led his adorable kids onstage to great fanfare. The children took turns to greet the audience and they received boisterous cheers from the delighted fans. After receiving some gifts from well-wishers in the crowd, Ricky, Tae Rin and Tae Oh played a game with 3 lucky participants where the winner had to shake off the most number of Post-Its within one minute. Some fans even had the opportunity to take a photo with Ricky and his children as a sweet memento!
The most heartwarming moment of the evening was when Ricky paid tribute to his wife of 7 years, saying “All the beauty and happiness [that we have], comes from my wife.” Fans cheered as he invited his wife Ryu Seung Joo up on stage and presented her with a huge bouquet of flowers. She also took the opportunity to thank everyone present for giving her family a warm welcome. The meet and greet session concluded with a fansign event where audience members had a chance to interact up close with Ricky. Before leaving the stage, Ricky bid the crowd farewell and showed immense gratitude and appreciation for their support.
Exclusive shorts of Ricky Kim and his children’s visit to Singapore are expected to air later in May on ONE. Fans who missed the event can catch Ricky Kim and family on Oh! My Baby, which airs within a week of Korea’s telecast, every Thursday at 11pm on ONE. Viewers can also enjoy other hit variety shows within a week of their Korean telecast, including Running Man, Law of the Jungle, K-Pop Countdown.
