[PHILIPPINES] Sparks and Swag: Lee Sung Kyung enchants her Filo fairies during “Be Joyful” in Manila

The night of July 27 was filled with swag and pixie dust—not the usual combination, but oh well—as hundreds of Filipino fairies gathered to see, cheer for, and be further charmed by their queen fairy, actress and model Lee Sung Kyung, at the SM City Sky Dome.

There was no holding back from the fairytale narrative as Sung Kyung opened the night with a beautiful ~under the sea~ performance of “Part of your World” from The Little Mermaid. As she is known to be a big fan of Disney Princesses’ films, Sung Kyung channeling Princess Ariel for her first performance was surely a treat to be treasured dearly by her fans!

The model-slash-actress came back on stage for an interview conducted by the night’s host, Alexander Diaz. She said she was looking forward to hearing her Filipino fairies cheer for her, and that she’s ready to open up to everyone during the fan meeting, to be able to make the night worthwhile.

For the first corner, fans got updated with what Sung Kyung had been up to recently through her Instagram posts. The photos included a selfie she took while doing a shoot in Los Angeles; a moment from when she threw a surprise for her manager’s birthday (she added she enjoys throwing AND RECEIVING surprises!); and a video with her little sister who, Sung Kyung said, is as interested in musicals as her.

Next, a video compilation of the roles she took in all the Korean dramas she participated in was shown. When asked of the process she undergoes whenever she’s selecting acting projects, Sung Kyung easily said that she chose all the characters she played so far simply because “they seem fun.”

As for these roles being so different from each other, Sung Kyung sees this as a chance for her to take on various personalities to be able to further improve her craft and skills as an actress.

She chose Michaela Choi from ‘About Time’ as the most challenging role she has portrayed, for she needed to prepare a lot for it, specifically for the musical arc of the story. She even shared how it took the drama team 10 hours to shoot Michaela’s piano scene alone!

Meanwhile, it is the famous, swag-ful Kim Bok Joo who left the most impression to Sung Kyung. Her Filo fairies couldn’t help but agree—for Bok Joo is undeniably a favorite of the Filipino K-Drama community.

For the next corner, Sung Kyung shared some of the songs currently included in her playlist. One of which was “A Whole New World” from Disney movie Aladdin. The audience voiced out their approval after the song was played, as Sung Kyung’s short cover of the song recently went viral —with even the original singing voice behind Princess Jasmine, Philippines’ very own Lea Salonga, to praise Sung Kyung for her musicality.

Immediately after this corner were the much awaited dance performances of the overly-talented Sung Kyung! She took on BLACKPINK Jennie’s “SOLO”, TWICE’s “Fancy“, and BLACKPINK’s hit song “Kill This Love“—proving everyone yet again that she is more than just a model and an actress. She is THE total performer!

After the hot and hyped dance numbers, it was time to spoil Filo fairies even more! Giveaways were conducted: a set of 20 polaroid photos Sung Kyung took herself—all for ONE LUCKY FAN; a chance to take a selfie with no other than the queen fairy; an extremely cute video recording of Sung Kyung doing a wake up call for her Biblee; another special polaroid photo complete with a dedication from the actress; and a customized shirt Sung Kyung designed herself which says “Biblee, Be Joyful. Just how lucky could these fans get?

As the fan meeting drew to an end, Sung Kyung took the chance to thank all her Filipino Biblees and told them she had a great night with them. She expressed how grateful she is for her fans, for always being there and for being the reason why she can always recover from life’s difficulties.

She ended with a promise that she will come back to the Philippines as the character Filipino fairies love so much: as no other than the Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo. Fans are already so excited for it!

The fan meeting concluded with Sung Kyung’s sweet encore performance of From Now On, an OST of her much acclaimed drama, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo.
