[PHILIPPINES] Once Upon A Time in THE BOYZ Asia Fan-Con Tour: THE CASTLE in Manila

Filipino The Bs had the time of their lives meeting their twelve prince charmings at the New Frontier Theater last June 19, 2019, for The Boyz Asia Fan-Con Tour [THE CASTLE] in Manila. It was the last stop of The Castle show and The Boyz made sure to end the tour with a bloom bloom pow!

Loud cheers met Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Hwall, Sunwoo, and Eric as the clock struck 5pm. It’s actually their second time meeting Deobis from the Philippines, but the fans welcomed them warmly just the same. The “monster rookie” group from Cre.ker Entertainment first came to Manila last October 28, 2018, for the MBC Music Show Champion along with EXO, Weki Meki, MXM, Hyeongseop x Euiwong and XENO-T.

The Boyz opened the show performing to their hit songs ‘Boy’ and ‘Right Here.’ The performances were followed by a comedic VCR showing The Boyz acting out a parody of a famous scene from Sky Castle, a popular TV series in South Korea. Later in the show, the members expressed their joy showcasing their acting skills to fans through the video they have prepared.

Since it was a fanmeet-slash-concert setup, The Boyz took time to talk with PH Deobis and even boasted their Tagalog-speaking skills, saying “kamusta” (how are you), “mahal kita” (I love you), and “salamat sa pagpunta” (thank you for coming).

Time for games! The Boyz were divided into three teams: Team A, B, and Jjang. Team A, which included Sangyeon, Haknyeon, Kevin and New, won the “Introductory Quiz” in which they had to guess the song title and the artist after hearing the song for just one second. Team A were able to correctly guess “The Boys” by SNSD, “Love Me Right” by EXO, “TT” by TWICE, “Lullaby” by GOT7, and “Fake Love” by BTS. What is more, The Boyz also danced to all these songs after guessing them correctly.

The last game was everyone’s favorite: The Whisper Challenge. This time, Younghoon, Juyeon, Hyunjae, and Sunwoo of Team B won the game after getting halo-haloand Palawanunder two minutes. Team A wasn’t able to guess “Rizal Park” and Team Jjang (Jacob, Eric, Hwall and Q) sinigangunder the given time limit. Team B said they felt happy in winning the game as they actually never won any game before. Haha!

As a treat to Filipino Deobis, The Boyz ended their fanmeet segment serenading everyone in the venue with “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko”, a Filipino classic love song.

The second part of The Castle show was the performances! The Boyz are well-known for their powerful stages and in-sync choreography. Once again, they proved themselves as they performed “No Air”, “Get It”, “Only ONE”, “Text Me Back”, “I’m Your Boy”, “4EVER”, “Giddy Up” and “KeePer”. They also did dance covers of EXO’s “Call Me Baby” and TWICE’s “Cheer Up.”

The Boyz recently released their second single album ‘Bloom Bloom’ on April 29, 2019 and took their first-ever music show win since debut on The Show on May 7, 2019. They made sure to also showcase their ‘Bloom Bloom’ stage to the fans in Manila who helped them snag their first music show win.

During their talk segment, The Boyz said the Manila stop of their Asian fancon tour is special because it’s the last. They added that it was an honor to be at the venue with their Filipino fans and thanked everyone at New Frontier. They said The Castle show was made possible because of Deobis’ love and support. The Boyz even said, sayang talaga(what a pity) that the show has to end.

Meanwhile, Hwall and Sangyeon revealed they lived in the Philippines before. They both said they came to the country to study, but later on, pursued their dreams to become artists. Another memorable moment was Kevin telling fans that there’s already so much hate in the world and that it’s a privilege to have this job and be able to see lovely people and make them happy. Aww!

Of course, the concert will not be complete without a fan project. A video created by PH Deobis played on the screen showing The Boyz’ journey from before debut until now. It left The Boyz speechless but it was the fans at the venue who shed a few tears.

To console fans, Juyeon and Hwall said Magkikita tayo ulit! Promise! Babalik kami! (We will see each other again! Promise! We will be back!). This was when the exchange of I-Love-You occurred between Deobis and The Boyz, in Tagalog and in Korean. The Boyz ended the show and the tour serenading the fans one last time with “Clover”.

The doors to The Castle Show have been officially closed. We would like to thank Three Angles Production for the media invite. Till the next event!
