Fresh from touring in Europe and the US with future R&B artist and multi-platinum songwriter DEAN and Club Eskimo, we got a chance to sit down and get to know Universal Music Korea’s newest and up and coming R&B artist, singer-songwriter and performer, SAAY.
With a family background that is deeply rooted in music, SAAY grew up performing traditional Korean Music at an early age before being exposed to other genres of music and became a big fan of bands such as Megadeth and X-Japan. The talented artist had also participated in writing songs for other artists such as Super Junior-M’s Henry’s second and third EP.
In May 2017, SAAY released her first mixtape , ‘THE ZONE’, on SoundCloud with three tracks sung in both Korean and English, showing off her strength as a bilingual artist determined to connect with her fans through different languages.
SAAY’s talents had also been recognized by internationally acclaimed artist, Chris Brown, with him sharing her cover of his song ‘Fine China’ on his Instagram, raking in a whopping 1.4 million views! Interested to know more about SAAY? Check out our full interview with her below!

Q: Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
A: Hi The Seoul Story fans! I’m SAAY, I’m the new artist of Universal Music Korea.
Q: Having grown up in an environment that has both traditional Korean music (Pansori & Samulnori) and band music, how has it influenced your own sound when you create music?
A: It’s very useful to see various genres in music. They are very different but those genres have their own story so it’s useful to see the various genres and try something based on that.
Q: You’ve released your first mixtape, THE ZONE, recently. Can you tell us more about it and is there a track on your mixtape that you’d like to recommend to our readers?
A: I want to recommend all the tracks. I really wanted to express who I am, what I feel, and what I see through my music. I hope you’ll like it!
Q: As a talented singer-songwriter and performer, are there any dream stages that you wish to perform on?
A: There’s so many actually! If I had a chance for that, I want to be on Billboard, The GRAMMYs, Good Morning America and MTV.
Q: Recently you’ve toured with DEAN and Club Eskimo. Do you have any pre-concert rituals that you do before you go on stage?
A: I talk to myself. Like, “Oh you can do it! You can make it! Just do whatever you want on the stage.”
Q: Are there any artistes that you’d wish to collaborate with in the future?
A: Yes, Will Hart. He’s based in the UK and I found his album just a few days ago. I love his album, expecially ‘Naked’. I saw his live on YouTube and I really want to collaborate with him someday.
Q: What do you have in store for fans who are waiting for your next release?
A: My debut single will be released in a few weeks and there are so many other things but I cannot tell you~
