[FEATURE] Mix and Match: The Dynamic Sound of MXM

The duo comprising of Youngmin and Donghyun only made their debut a little over a year ago, and despite being relatively new to the K-pop scene, MXM’s discography already holds so much promise as they effortlessly deliver any genre, fitting for the duo’s name, which apparently stands for “Mix and Match” and “More x More”. Keep on reading to know more about the dynamic sound of MXM! 🙂

I’M THE ONE
It’s quite hard to believe that MXM hails from Brand New Music, a label known as a rap and hip-hop company, when their debut track is unmistakably pop with only a dash of hip-hop. Nevertheless, “I’M THE ONE” has all the charms of a typical K-pop dance track that we have come to love, and the song’s vibrant and easygoing tune is nothing short of perfect for the title track of their debut EP, <UNMIX>.

Other noteworthy tracks from ‘UNMIX’: ‘GOOD DAY’, ‘JUST COME OUT’, & ‘SAVE THE REST’

DIAMOND GIRL
The lead single for the duo’s second EP <MATCH UP> is a stark contrast to their previous title track – ‘DIAMOND GIRL’ leans more toward a funky, retro vibe that is not only addicting, but is also timeless, considering its 80s-inspired production.

Other noteworthy tracks from ‘MATCH UP’: ‘ERRDAY’ & ‘LIPS’

GONE COLD
MXM goes back to their label’s R&B and hip-hop roots with their double single release <REMATCH> with ‘GONE COLD’ and ‘LOVE ME NOW’ as the lead tracks. ‘GONE COLD’ showcases a melancholic R&B tune that highlights the duo’s vocals and polished harmonisation while ‘LOVE ME NOW’ is more bass-driven and heavy, setting them apart from MXM’s previous lighthearted releases.

YA YA YA
The duo recently made their comeback with ‘YA YA YA’ from their first album <MORE THAN EVER>, marking it as their first comeback with a full-length album since their debut. This time around, MXM reverts to their signature playful sound with this catchy track that climaxes at the fascinating instrumental break at its bridge.

Other noteworthy tracks from <MORE THAN EVER>: ‘KNOCK KNOCK’, ‘CHECKMATE’, & ‘HOPING THAT YOU’D LOVE ME’
